Wimpey boosts profits by 25% during first half

George Wimpey has grown its pre-tax profit by a quarter to £152.3 million during the six months to July 2. While the UK business reported a healthy 7% rise in operating profit to £114.9 million, the strong performance of US arm, Morrison Homes, saw it grow profit by 23% to $125.3 million.
