Flat inflation eases fears of further rate rise

Inflation remained flat in October, easing fears of further interest rate hikes in the New Year. The latest consumer price index (CPI) shows that inflation has remained at September’s 2.4%, with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) attributing the flattening effect mainly to falling transport costs. Petrol prices also fell, on average, by 5p per litre between September and October.
