Builders told to “design out crime”

Housebuilders have been asked to think about reducing crime when designing and building new communities. Speaking at the Sustainable Communities Summit in Manchester the home secretary, Charles Clarke, said that crime could be reduced by better design. Clarke said: “It is very important in any sustainable development that security and crime prevention is the core of every community initiative.”
